Football season appetizers and Old El Paso gift pack giveaway

Football season is getting pretty exciting with the playoffs in full swing and the Superbowl right around the corner!

If you are gearing up for some celebrations bringing together friends to watch the game, I have a few tasty appetizer ideas for you.

In our house having a casual appetizer spread for dinner on football Sundays is a popular option! Thanks to Old El Paso and MyBlogSpark we had a chance to make some new recipes featuring Old El Paso chiles*.

Check out our super cool football table decor*…makes it pretty festive, now doesn’t it?

We love chips and dip so my guys chose this great Green Chile Dip to go with their tortilla chips.  Super easy to make,  with just the right amount of spice for everyone to enjoy.  Old El Paso Green chiles add a lot of flavor with out adding too much spice.

I tried to hurry up a grab a plate before everyone else, but that darn photographer caught me…

Next up we made some Chile, Cheese and Bacon Quesadillas.  We used our George Forman grill to cook up the bacon, and then heated up the quesadillas on there as well.   I really liked the combination of the bacon with the chiles.  Now take these and dip into that Green Chile dip…oh my is that good!

There are a few other recipes from the Betty Crocker site that feature Old El Paso chiles that I want to try next. Most have a prep time of  less than 30 minutes each.  A few that look interesting are:

Black Bean Dip

Green Chile Cornbread

Taco Nachos

Skillet Nacho Chili

Slow Cooker Salsa Chili

Seven Layer Bean Dip

Right now is the perfect time to taste test some new recipes before  you gear up for the big game.

Here is a link to a coupon for .55 off a can of Old El Paso Green Chiles so you can try out one of these tasty recipes.

The chiles come in 4.5 and 7 oz. cans, are fat free and are less than 10 calories per serving.
A tasty way to spice up your dishes.

Old El Paso is generously offering up another “Tackle the Taste” gift pack for one of my readers!

  1. We aren’t football people here, but we do have some favorite party appetizers! My husband LOVES 7-layer dip with tortilla chips and I’m a big fan of meatballs in bbq-grape jelly sauce!

  2. We are also not big football people, but we love jalapeno poppers and hot wings for party appetizers.

  3. I am a football person if it’s my team that’s in the Super Bowl. They might just be there again this year! Plus who doesn’t love the commercials? I love to serve chips and salsa and cheese dip. Also love to have hot wings and the little mini weenies!

  4. WE will be serving hot hot hot wings, taco dip and chips/salsa. We are football nuts! I would LOVE to win this! THANK YOU for the opportunity!

  6. I agree with Darcie, I love those chiles! Mexican is by far our favorite cuisine so I’ll definitely be checking out those recipes (and using the coupon) Thanks!

And I also found this very informative in an unintended way – cooking bacon on the Foreman grill has never occurred to me! Does it give you that better-than-microwaved skillet taste? (Totally craving some bacon now…)

  7. Sadly, the Patriots and Packers didn’t make it………but I’d love to put together a party with this!….Pretty cool…….
We are big chips and salsa folks……with chilis!….the hotter, the better…..

  8. @Heather: Yes the bacon comes out way better on the grill than in the microwave. Just watch it closely, it does cook fast.
@Amy: I wish the Pats were still in it, too.

Glad to see so many like Mexican appetizers…those chiles will be a good fit!

  9. My husband lives for football season. College or professional, it doesn’t matter. However, we BOTH love to eat! Superbowl would not be complete without wings and chili and the Slow Cooker Salsa Chili sounds really good and easy! I think I’ll give it a try! Thanks!

  10. Chili, chips and salsa! And sometimes those little cocktail weinees boiled up in a mix of grape jelly and barbeque sauce. Oh, and don’t forget the cheeseball!

  11. We love to serve Hot and spicy chicken wings. Messy but very good. Everything here looks delish, I’ll have to try a few of them.
    thanks
